Exporting

The audio that Amy has gone back and edited has been completed and sounds better than it did originally. The 3 pieces of work have been exported/saved and uploaded to YouTube, and we are now just waiting for the questionnaire to be completed so that we can post them online.

Editing the audio

Amy and Lewis continued to make the questionnaire and waited for the documentary to conform so that Mark could watch it and give feedback. After this, he and Amy tried to edit the audio.

My absence

For this next week I will be on a trip with college so will not be present to help with any of the production/editing/work.

Newspaper advert and radio trailer: cont. 3

After receiving feedback on the newspaper advert from Mark, we decided to add a circular gradient effect to the background, starting at the centre of the circle made by the guitars, as this would draw the audiences eyes to it. We've also completed our first draft of the radio trailer, and are considering changing the order of the clips to see what would sound best.
We are receiving more feedback on both pieces of work soon.

Newspaper advert and radio trailer: cont. 2

Today Amy began to edit the background of the newspaper advert which meant using the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop and editing out the background that they plectrums were sat on. She then duplicated the image and added more layers of it, making it look like there were more plectrums scattered and so that the background could be fully filled in.
Lewis continued to edit together the radio trailer.

Editing guitar pictures

Today I stayed behind after college to re-edit the guitar images. Although the background had been edited of for the most part, there were still patches of white which would show up once a background was added. So I made sure that each of them were edited fully to ensure this didn't happen.

Newspaper andvert and radio trailer: cont.

Today Amy photographed my guitar picks so that they could be used as a background for the newspaper advert. When she came back to upload the photos, as a group we chose which arrangement was best - we chose the picture of the picks scatters and overlapping in a random order.
Lewis and I fed back to Amy the decisions we had made on the order of the clips for the radio trailer so that we could then start the production.

Starting the Newspaper Advert and Radio Trailer

Today myself and Lewis decided which clips from the documentary we were going to include in our radio trailer. After we had a list of usable clips we then decided on what order they would go in while finding the original video files so that we could ad them to the radio trailer on Premiere.
While we were doing this, Amy was starting to making a start on creating the newspaper advert by cutting the guitar images off their white backgrounds so that they could be put on a new coloured background, and also placing them in the circle in Photoshop.

Guitar photographs

Today Amy and I went back to Frailers to take photographs of some of the guitars there. Frank (the owner) let us use a separate room to do this in to ensure we didn't disturb the shop. We were planning on also photographing some plectrums today, however as they are in packets, we'd have to buy them. So instead we will take pictures of my own plectrums and edit them in Photoshop, as they are all white and we want our background to have colour.

Final draft of the voiceover scripts

Thursday, 25 February 2016

Script redrafting

After receiving feedback from Mark on our voiceover script, Lewis had began to implement this feedback while I type up the plan for the radio trailer script.

UPDATE:

As the deadline is so soon I began to continue to work on the scripts so that I can show Lewis and Amy in lesson tomorrow and they can edit it if they wish to at the start of the lesson before we show them to Mark. I also have the sketch for our newspaper advert.

Continuing with scripts

Today we continued to cut down and edit the voiceover scripts to ensure that it will definitely fit into the time frame it needs to. We've clarified that the person we want to do our voiceover for us is able to do it so now we just need to finish the script and arrange a time to record it. He will also be the voiceover in our radio trailer, which we are currently still writing the script for.

We are still working on our ideas for the newspaper advert's image. So far we have

  • a toy guitar morphing into a real guitar
  • sections of different guitars cut together to make one full image
  • picks placed around the edges of a guitar's body
  • guitars placed in a circle
These were handed in to Mark and by the end of the lesson he told us to work on the guitars placed in a circle. We've decided that I will go out to take pictures of guitars when I can through the week and these will be edited in photoshop to create the final image.

Drafts of scripts

Today I started to edit down the voiceover script so that it would fit into the gaps that we have for it, as after reading over it, some parts were slightly too long.

While I did this, Amy watched the documentary and listened for any voice clips that we'd be able to use in the radio trailer.

Editing: day 17

Now that the editing is complete and waiting to be seen by Mark, we began to discuss our ideas for our newspaper advert. We decided on the slogan "Take Your Pick" but are yet to come up with an image to go with it. Deciding to brainstorm this individually before our next lesson we moved onto the voiceover for the documentary. We've managed to rite out a full first draft which is also waiting to be reviewed by Mark.

Editing: day 16

Today I printed out the new still images for the cutaways, then myself and Lewis continued to film them while Amy continued to edit the documentary.

Tuesday, 2 February 2016

Editing: day 15

Today as a group we worked on adding the new cutaways (filmed still images) to the documentary. Some of these were quite shaky or rushed but we managed to fine a good clip of most of them. Unfortunately some will need to be refilmed and we have decided to print out more images to film, we have saved the new images ready to print and have booked out a camera and tripod ready for filming the rest on another day.

Filming still images

Today Amy and I printed out a bunch of still images to link to each interview and filmed them to be used as cutaways.

Friday, 29 January 2016

Editing: day 14

Today we cut down Steve's and Richard's interviews so that we would have more time available to fit the voiceover in.
We also arranged a time to film the rest of the cutaways.

Thursday, 28 January 2016

Editing: day 13

Today we continued to edit the documentary in lesson according to Mark's feedback, and began to plan when we are going to film more cutaways.

Newspaper Adverts: Codes & Conventions

Tuesday, 26 January 2016

Feedback & Editing: day 12

Today Mark watched our documentary and gave us feedback on what went well and what still needs to be improved. After receiving the feedback we implemented it for the rest of the lesson.

Friday, 22 January 2016

Editing: day 11

Today Lewis and I added a backing track to some of the interviews and double checked all of the interviews to make sure that they made sense and had relevant cutaways over every cut. We also changed the font of the documentary name that shows at the end of the opening titles and changed the duration of the opening montage so that it worked well with the sound bed.

Radio Trailers: Codes & Conventions

Editing: day 10

Today we are adding graphics to the interviews and continuing to cut down the interview footage as to make sure that none of them have any answers that don't make sense without the question and that the whole interview flows nicely.

I stayed behind after college to continue to cut down the interview footage so that overall the documentary (without voiceover) was under 5 minutes. I also changed the cutaways so that they weren't overdone and the ones that had poor camerawork or weren't relevant.

Tuesday, 19 January 2016

Editing: day 9

Today we started by editing down the montage at the beginning of the documentary so that it only takes up the amount of time planned on the logging sheet. We then moved on to cutting down the Frailers interview and replacing some of the cutaways/re-ordering them.

Lewis stayed behind after the lesson to continue editing and managed to cut the overall documentary down to just over 5 minutes.

Editing: day 8

Today we looked over our whole documentary and decided what needed to be refilmed. We booked out a camera so that over the weekend we could film some extra cutaways and more vox pops, as some of our original vox pops were unusable.
Other than that we just continued to cut down Andrew Will's interview and attempt to fix the sound of the Frailers interview.

Tuesday, 12 January 2016

Uploading footage & editing: day 7

Today we uploaded the interview footage from the second Frailers interview. However, we found that we had the same problem with the audio as we had on the first interview. Because the answers given on the second interview weren't as good as the ones we were given the first time, we decided to just work on fixing the audio of the original interview.

Refilming Frailers interview

As our first attempt at filming the interview with Frailers had a problem with the audio, myself and Amy went to Frailers to redo the interview. While there we also filmed some more cutaways.

Editing: day 6 & Feedback

Today Mark gave us our feedback on our work so far. We will need to
  • Cut down on amount of cutaways
  • Get rid of archive footage
  • Redo interview with Frailers
  • Possibly redo opening titles
  • Get rid of some of the current vox pops and film some more
  • Cut down all interviews as they are all too long
We continued to edit our documentary, keeping this feedback in mind.

Calling Frailers to reschedule

After emailing Frailers we decided to call them up to reschedule rather than waiting for a reply. We have now arranged to redo the interview with Frank on Monday the 11th of January.

Tuesday, 5 January 2016

Emailing Frailers again

We've decided to redo our interview with the manager from Frailers Guitar & Banjo Shop as the sound quality is very noticeably poorer than the other interviews, so today we emailed him asking if we'd be able to come back.

Redoing editing & opening titles

After doing a rough version of our opening titles before Christmas, we know knew what we wanted to do and how we were going to do it. So today myself and Lewis set up a camera and guitar and took the pictures for the stopmotion.

While we were doing this, Amy was redoing some of the editing we did before Christmas, as it was not saved properly and we lost a lot of the work we had done.
