Editing - day 4

Today we started to edit the interview with Andrew Will (guitar learner). We cut out all of the questions and began to change the order of his answers so that the dialogue had more of a natural flow to it and made more sense.
We also changed the order of the vox pops.

Editing - day 3

I was unable to attend today's lesson so so again I was unable to participate. However during my absence Amy and Lewis continued to edit the documentary.

Filming the Opening Titles

Today we began to film our opening titles. However we had a few setbacks as the room we planned to use was unavailable, so we had to find a new location. This also meant that we didn't have the background and lighting that we originally planed on having.

The rest of the lesson was spent attempting to do the opening titles, which is a stop-motion. However once we had gotten the hand of how this was supposed to be done to get the best result once editing together, we were out of time, so we will have to retake this when we next have all of the props together.

Editing - day 2

Today we continued to edit as a group. By the end of the lesson the voxpops were edited into a montage and the first interview was started to come together so that it flowed. Some cutaways were added but the full interview is not yet complete.

Editing - catching up

As I missed the start of the editing process, today I stayed behind after college to watch what had been done so far so that I knew where we were up to, and to continue to edit parts of the Frailers interview. The microphone didn't pick much of this interview, meaning the sound was very quiet, so I went into the audio settings and tried to fix it. The audio is now better but still much quieter than he other interviews, so we may not be able to include this interview in the documentary.
Unfortunately I couldn't stay for too long and was unable to edit much overall.

Editing - day 1

Today Amy and Lewis began to edit the documentary. They edited together the voxpops and began to cut out the questions from the interview with Frank Frailer (shop owner). Unfortunately I was absent on this day and was unable to be involved.

Edit Decision List

Callum Meredith

Despite originally agreeing to be filmed, Callum Meredith (guitar collector) has not replied to us in order to arrange a date/time/location for filming. We have tried many times to contact him but have had no response. We now plan to continue making the documentary without his interview and will be replacing it with an interview with Chris Washby, which we filmed as a filler just in case we needed extra footage.

Interview with the manager of Frailers Guitar & Banjo Shop

Today we went to Frailers Guitar & Banjo shop in Runcorn to interview the shop owner Frank. We also filmed cutaways around the shop before and after the interview, as well as taking pictures.

Filming the second lot of vox pops

As our first attempt of getting vox pops was unsuccessful with us only getting three people to participate, today we went into Warrington to get some more. We asked people the same question (Who is your favourite guitarist?) and were more successful this time around.

We also filmed a busker in town named Kevin John who was playing guitar and singing. He allowed us to film him performing but was unable to film an interview for us. Instead we filmed him for a vox pop instead.

Redoing interview with Tom Bellingham

As there was a problem with uploading the footage of Tom's interview, we have had to refilm it. This time we filmed in the room where he had his music lessons in college.

Interview with Tom Bellingham

Today we filmed an interview with Tom Bellingham, who produces his own music and publishes it online. Afterwards we went to his house to film cutaways.

Interview with Chris Washby

Today we had an interview with Chris Washby, who is a guitarist in a band. We conducted this interview in one of the recording studios in college. This interview is not a planned part of our running order, however we have decided to film it just in case we find we need more footage when we come to editing. We also filmed cutaways after the interview.

Interview with Andrew Will

Today we went to Culcheth to interview Andrew Will, a guitar learner. We also filmed some cutaways of him playing his guitar while here.

Filming Vox Pops in Stockton Heath

Today we went into Stockton Heath to film some vox pops. We asked people "Who is your favourite guitarist?" Unfortunately out of everybody we asked to participate, we only managed to get 3 people to agree. We plan to film more vox pops on another date so that we can get enough.

Monday, 16 November 2015

Interview with Richard Scholes

Today we held an interview with Richard Scholes, guitarist and lead singer in the band Twenty4Seven. After the interview we filmed cutaways.

Dawsons declining

Today I went into Dawsons to ask for confirmation that the manager Damien was still able to film him interview since they had not answered our email. I managed to speak to Damien himself but unfortunately he said that they would no longer be able to participate as they "are just too busy at this time of year."

We now plan to find another guitar shop owner who will be able to step in and film an interview.

TV Scheduling

Friday, 25 September 2015

Brief

Your brief is to produce the opening 5 minutes, including the titles, of a 30 minute television documentary programme.

You will also produce a radio trailer and a newspaper advertisement to promote your programme.

You will plan the whole 30 minute documentary, but will only produce the first 5 minutes.

As part of your production you will need to conduct interviews. These interviews must be original and authentic. No interviews can be scripted and you can not use somebody pretending to be somebody else.

You must keep a blog throughout the whole of your coursework which will detail all of the work you do. The blog must be a multi-media text, including video clips, audio clips, links to relevant websites and still images as well as text.

BRIEF

To work in pairs to produce a 5 minute documentary interview about mobile phones including cutaways and a music bed. Cinematography, sound and mise en scene must be considered while filming and the final interview, post-editing, must answer the following questions questions:

1) Tell me what your life was like before you had the mobile phone.
2) When did you get your first mobile phone and why did you get it?
3) Tell me about all the mobile phones you've had.
4) Tell me about your current mobile phone.
5) Why did you choose this phone?
6) Tell me about the ringtone you have on your phone and why you chose it.
7) What do you use your mobile phone for?
8) How much does your mobile phone cost you each month?
9) How often do you send text messages?
10) What text 'language' do you use and how did you learn it?
11) What's the best thing about having a mobile phone?
12) What's the worst thing about having a mobile phone?
13) How important is your mobile phone to you?
14) How would you cope without your mobile phone?
